Hartfield House is situated within the former hunting lodge on the Applecross Estate, and is owned by the Applecross Trust. The building is leased to our parent charity, Venture Trust to run as a hostel. We are made up of three parts: Venture Mòr, an outdoor activity company providing Wilderness Therapy programmes, Duke of Edinburgh and bespoke group activity holidays across the Highlands; a large hub in the form of Hartfield House hostel in Applecross, and; a pledge to provide a springboard into the world of work for disadvantaged young adults.
Income generated through Hartfield House is ploughed into raising funds for the Venture Trust charity. The more money we raise, the more young adults Venture Trust can help to get back on their feet. So, when you book your stay at Hartfield House or you choose Venture Mòr for your next adventure, you will be putting money towards those in desperate need of your help. Simple as that! Our aim at Venture Mòr is to provide Wilderness Therapy programmes for 14-18 year olds struggling with the pressures of school, authority, and life. Our parent charity, Venture Trust, has over 30 years of experience in supporting the most vulnerable members of society, using the outdoors as a catalyst for positive change. We draw on that experience, and resource to give you the best possible service in our Wilderness Therapy programmes. For more information please see our Wilderness Therapy pages
We have a team of staff ready to plan and facilitate your Duke of Edinburgh Award expeditions and assessment. If you need to get something organised individually or are a school wanting a bit of support, just get in touch. See our Duke of Edinburgh page for more information.
We organise bespoke activity holidays for groups of four and more throughout Scotland. The sky is the limit; you can climb mountains, camp out wild under the stars, kayak in the turquoise waters of the west coast, cycle the North Coast 500, or get back to nature with a yoga and wellbeing break. All you need to do is get in touch and tell us your requirements and budget. See our activity page for more information.
Venture Mòr recognised that for many young unemployed people, a job in adventure tourism and hospitality could be the pathway to a more positive future. Venture Mòr recruits, trains and supports young people to learn new skills, grow in confidence and flourish in the workplace. Our goal is that these young trainees can move on to become great employees and colleagues in other organisations or go to college to continue their training. Together we share the belief that everyone, whatever their circumstances, can be supported to make and sustain positive changes in their lives.
Our Venture Mòr hub and the heart of our business is Hartfield House hostel in Applecross. Casual worker contract – £8.45 per hour, plus holiday pay
Venture Trust works with people experiencing complicated life circumstances. Through the provision of wilderness-based personal and social development programmes, we equip them with the confidence, motivation and core life skills that they need to make positive changes in their lives.
Venture Trust’s social enterprise, Venture Mòr, operates an Affiliate Youth Hostel, Hartfield House on the Applecross peninsula and also offers adventure holidays and activities plus corporate team building and wilderness experiences across Scotland. Essential to the effective operation of our Hostel is a bank of experienced and hardworking casual worker staff, to who we can offer work to meet business requirements. As a casual worker with Venture Trust hours offered and worked may differ week to week, and particularly in response to high season; this is a great opportunity for you if you’re looking to work around existing commitments or bolster your current income levels.
We’re currently looking to increase our bank of casual workers at Hartfield House, in the Housekeeping Assistant role. Our Housekeeping Assistants are responsible for ensuring a high standard of cleanliness throughout the Hostel, including bedrooms, washrooms and public areas; as such, high attention to detail and previous experience of general domestic work are essential.
As Housekeeping Assistant, you will be responsible to the Hostel Manager for providing a high quality housekeeping service, including cleaning the bedrooms, wash rooms and public areas. You will also provide support with reception cover if required.

Venture Trust is committed to promoting equality and diversity in employment, and follows an equal opportunities policy. As such, you will be asked to complete an equal opportunities form.
If you would like to be considered as a casual worker at Hartfield House, please write to Henry Robertson (email@example.com) outlining your previous experience, which role you’re interested in, and providing a note of two referees we can contact.
